Rustbelt’s Guide to Live Edge

Understanding single slab, book matched, multiple slab, engineered

Single Slab -The tabletop is made from one solid piece of timber, ensuring the wood grain flows continuously without glue joints or seams, which provides a dramatic and luxurious look.

Multiple Slab - The piece is crafted by joining two or more planks of wood, rather than a single log slice, while retaining the natural, untrimmed edge (live edge) of the tree on the outer sides.

Book Matched - A piece featuring two consecutive, adjacent wood slabs from the same log opened like a book, creating a symmetrical, mirrored grain pattern along a central seam.

Engineered -The tabletop mimics the natural, raw edge of a wood slab, typically created by carving, grinding, or shaping dimensional lumber.
